The seahorse is symbolic of grace, agility and independence. She is represented here in the Art Deco style, lacquered in translucent soft colors that reveal her spiny texture, with a dorsal fin and tail of marcasite. She hovers within a black enamel and marcasite frame, suspended from a deco bar link chain. A faceted jet drop dangles below. Burnished silver finish. Size: 20" long. Exquisitely detailed and entirely made in our Los Angeles studio.
This beloved little sea creature has a special presence in works of decorative art of the early to mid 1900s, spanning the art nouveau and the deco eras. Artistic imagination was captivated by elongated, curvilinear ocean and botanical life. The seahorse was a favored subject for everything from Lalique glass to fabric prints.
